Wow! Erik Olson is coming to the NAH, Jan 7, the first friday of 2011! Mr. Olson's works are oil portraits of homes and structures in various stages of repair. Some large, some quite small, the paintings reflect our culture and society and how the structures we erect accommodate our desires but rarely account for consequences. Viewed in the abstract, the buildings become both the outward manifestations and the victims of our desires.
Erik Olson received his B.A. from Art Center College of Design in 1987 and free-lanced in
illustration until 2001. He received his M.F.A. in Painting from Wayne State University in
Detroit in 2010. He has exhibited his paintings in various group shows, including the
Williamson Gallery in Pasadena and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit. Mr. Olson
is currently a full-time associate professor at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.

Eric Mesko's Mudville Exhibit
Practically a holiday in Detroit, the Tiger's opening day at the ballpark signifies that Spring and America's favorite pastime are finally back. Despite the cooler temperatures, the sun poked out to reveal the figurative warmth in the city. Baseball, like the other popular professional sports in this country, has been driven by money in recent years. Even still, it holds a special place in our hearts; a place defined by tradition more than anything.
Mesko's nostalgic baseball-themed exhibit: Mudville, USA, which is currently at the Art House, exudes a feeling of true love for the game and for the pastime. Through art compiled for all the right reasons, the altruistic baseball era of the early 20th century comes to life. The show continues for two more weeks, Wed-Sat, 1-5 pm. Please experience the symbolic journey into the past where Mr. Mesko's creative compilation inevitably will take you.

Saints and Angels
Thought I would share a postcard of the Saints and Angels: Colonial Arts of Latin America exhibit at the U of M Dearborn. Our own treasurer, Gerry Culpepper's collection is part of this fantastic display that will surely amaze you. My husband, STILL to this day, cannot stop talking about Gerry's collection of paintings, in which he viewed months ago at the Northville Art House! Heaven help me:)
